How to Care for Your Bixpy Outboard Motor Battery

How to Care for Your Bixpy Outboard Motor Battery

Bixpy LLC

Taking care of your Bixpy lithium battery doesn’t have to be complicated. Whether you are using the PP-378, PP-768, or NB-1440 battery, proper charging, storage, and handling practices are essential to maintaining performance, longevity, and safe operation. The guidance below addresses the most common battery care questions in a clear, practical way—so you can keep your Bixpy battery performing at its best for years to come.

Battery Models Covered in This Guide

This care and maintenance guidance applies to the following Bixpy lithium battery models:

  • PP-378 Battery

  • PP-768 Battery

  • NB-1440 Battery

Each of these batteries uses lithium-based technology and shares similar care requirements, operating characteristics, and safety considerations. Always follow the recommendations below regardless of which model you own.

How should a Bixpy lithium battery be charged safely?

Charging your battery safely starts with supervision and the right equipment. Remain nearby while the battery is charging, particularly if it has not been used for an extended period. Monitoring the charging process allows you to identify unusual heat, odor, or behavior early and discontinue charging if necessary.

Always use the official Bixpy charger specifically designed for your battery model (PP-378, PP-768, or NB-1440). Using incompatible or third-party chargers can result in improper charging, overheating, permanent battery damage, or safety hazards. If there is any uncertainty about charger compatibility, contact Bixpy Support before proceeding.

To preserve battery health, avoid repeated deep discharges. Regularly allowing a battery to drain completely places unnecessary stress on internal components and can significantly reduce overall lifespan. Recharging the battery before it reaches zero capacity helps maintain long-term performance and reliability.

Once fully charged, disconnect the battery from the charger. Bixpy lithium batteries do not trickle charge and do not benefit from remaining plugged in after reaching full capacity.

Charging should always take place in a dry, well-ventilated environment. While Bixpy batteries feature waterproof housings for on-water use, wall chargers are not waterproof and should never be exposed to moisture.

What is the best way to store a Bixpy lithium battery?

Proper storage plays a major role in extending the life of your PP-378, PP-768, or NB-1440 battery. Store batteries in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, or freezing temperatures. Long-term exposure to extreme temperatures can degrade internal battery components and permanently reduce capacity.

For long-term storage, Bixpy recommends storing the battery at a partial charge level (approximately 50%–80%). This range supports stable internal chemistry and helps prevent damage associated with deep discharge during storage.

During extended periods of non-use, check the battery every few months and recharge it as needed—at least once every three months—to maintain a healthy charge level.

Keep battery terminals clean and dry at all times. Dirt, corrosion, or moisture on the connectors may interfere with performance and electrical contact. Gently wipe terminals with a soft, dry cloth when needed.

If a battery becomes unresponsive after prolonged storage, do not attempt to revive it using third-party chargers or improvised methods. These actions may create safety risks. Instead, contact Bixpy Support for proper guidance.

DO NOT STORE OR CHARGE your battery under direct sunlight or in a small enclosure that does not allow airflow.

How waterproof is a Bixpy battery, and what precautions should be taken?

Bixpy batteries are designed with waterproof housings suitable for marine environments and can tolerate brief, accidental submersion in shallow water.

After any submersion, inspect the battery carefully for signs of water intrusion. If there is any indication that water has entered the housing, discontinue use immediately and contact Bixpy Support for evaluation.

After using your battery, rinse and clean it with fresh water, charge it in a dry environment (Bixpy chargers are not waterproof) and always store your battery in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and the elements.

What should be done if a battery is dropped, damaged, or overheats?

Lithium batteries must be handled with care. Dropping, crushing, puncturing, or otherwise damaging the battery can compromise internal components and increase the risk of malfunction or fire. If the battery casing shows cracks, dents, swelling, or deformation, DO NOT use or charge the battery and contact Bixpy immediately for further instructions.

Temperature is another important indicator of battery condition. During normal use and charging, the battery should remain within a safe operating temperature range. Bixpy lithium batteries are designed to be used and stored at temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and below 113°F (45°C).

Do not operate, charge, or store the battery in temperatures outside this range. Exposure to freezing conditions (at or below 32°F / 0°C) or excessive heat (above 113°F / 45°C) can permanently damage internal cells, reduce capacity, and increase safety risks.

If the battery becomes excessively hot during use or charging, discontinue use immediately and allow it to cool in a safe, well-ventilated area away from flammable materials.

Never charge or operate a battery that shows signs of physical damage, overheating, or abnormal behavior. In all such cases, contact Bixpy for professional guidance before taking further action.

Why does proper battery care matter in the long run?

Consistent and proper care helps ensure reliable performance, longer battery life, and safe operation of your PP-378, PP-768, or NB-1440 battery. Following correct charging practices, storing the battery appropriately, and avoiding misuse reduces the likelihood of interruptions, overheating, and premature failure.

A well-maintained battery means more time enjoying the water and fewer unexpected issues. If questions arise at any point, Bixpy’s Support Team is available to help you get the most out of your equipment.
